How to teach a child to reject correctly

At a first glance, a well-mannered child is the one who helps friends, unconditionally meets his parents' requests, shows good behaviour at school. However, it is crucial for the child to learn to say ‘no’. Children who are eager to please their parents, teachers and authoritative pupils whom they consider to be their best friends sacrifice their own desires and opinions. Yet, the ability to say ‘no’ is a critical skill. Its lack can result in personal problems in the adult world. A child should be taught to listen to himself to determine whether to meet or deny a request or order. Treat your child with trust, understanding and respect. Don't forget to ask about his dreams and desires. Consult with him and listen to his reasoning when choosing his food, clothes, tools for arts and crafts, etc. Explain your reasoning rather than prohibit. This approach will make your child grow self-confident and be capable of saying "no", when necessary.
