Reading Books as a Way of Speech Development 11-12 Months

Every baby grows and develops differently, doing things at her own pace. But there are general ways to boost your baby’s cognitive development. Reading books is one of them. Babies are soaking up so much information at this age. Reading is an excellent way to expand your baby’s vocabulary, broaden her horizons and develop imaginative and logical thinking.
You should not just read books to your baby, but also describe pictures, name characters of stories. Books at this age should be more complicated than first books. It can be short stories, different poems and songs. Parents should buy books with board pictures. Your baby can look through them herself not bothering you when you cook dinner, for example. Reading books should be a part of evening routine before going to bed. It is scientifically proven than reading calms down and improves emotional state of a baby.
